Recipe for Traditional Polish Krupnik

Krupnik is a liqueur with a honey and spice taste. The traditional one is made of bee honey and spices and the recipe dates back to the 17th century. The name of the alcohol comes from the Lithuanian drink krupnikaswhich is more sweet and less spicy than the traditional Old Polish drink. To make krupnik you need:

  • 1 glass of honey
  • ½ l spirit
  • ¼ nutmeg
  • ½ stick of cinnamon
  • allspice
  • 2 cloves
  • pinch of ginger
  • dried orange peel
  • ½ vanilla stick

Crush the spices in a mortar. Combine honey with the spices, add a glass of water, cook over low heat for a few minutes, set aside for half an hour. Then strain the liquid and pour into a heated jug, add spirit and stir quickly. The liquor is immediately ready for consumption.
