Recipe for chokeberry liqueur

Chokeberry liqueur has an intense dark red color, distinctive, slightly tart taste. Chokeberry fruit itself is a source of many vitamins, mainly P (rutin), which seals the blood vessels and slows down the oxidation of vitamin C and valuable elements: potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, iodine, manganese, molybdenum. To prepare chokeberry tincture you will need:

  • 0,75 kg of chokeberries
  • approx. 15 cherry leaves with stems
  • 1 litre of water
  • 1 kg of sugar
  • 1 l spirit 95%
  • citric acid

Wash and pick chokeberry fruits, pour hot water, add cherry leaves. Cook for 25 minutes on low heat and strain. If the juice has cooled down boil it. Add sugar and a teaspoon of citric acid (it preserves the colour of the liqueur), stir. When the juice cools down you can add spirit and pour into bottles. Chokeberry liqueur matures for about 6 months.
